Why Did Optavia Change Its Name to Trilivy? What Medifast's Own Numbers Say About Coaches (2026)
The short answer
You built your coaching on the OPTAVIA name. On July 17, 2026, Medifast changed it to Trilivy.
Here is the short version. Medifast says OPTAVIA was known mostly for one thing, weight loss. Its release calls the change "an evolution of the company's vision."
Its own numbers say more. By the end of June 2026 it counted about 11,700 active earning coaches. That is down 48.7% in a year, and it expects fewer still.
That is the whole post. The rest is the proof, and what to do on Monday.
What this guide answers
Why did Optavia change its name to Trilivy?
Quick answer: the company says OPTAVIA was known mostly for weight loss. That same summer, its coach count was down by almost half.
It is past ten. One lamp is still on in your home office. The laptop is shut and the chair is pushed back.
You know the list. The client who texted to ask if her order still comes. The old flyers in the closet. The new logo for your page. The fee you have not paid. And that feeling that the name was running your business instead of the other way around.
Medifast gave its reason on the August 3, 2026 earnings call. CEO Nick Johnson said, "For years, the OPTAVIA brand was known primarily for one outcome, weight loss."
Your clients may type trilogy or Tivoli into the search bar. The new name is Trilivy.
Twenty minutes, and you decide nothing on the call
Weighing what comes after a new name? It is a video call about my own business, Switch to America. Ask me anything. You sign nothing.
You can always say no.And this is not the first time Medifast has changed the name.
Has Optavia changed its name before?
Quick answer: yes. Until July 2017 it was Take Shape For Life. Both times, a new pay plan came with the new name.
In July 2017, Medifast said its Take Shape For Life business "has rebranded to OPTAVIA." It counted "over 12,500 Coaches." It also announced "OPTAVIA Pay, a new Coach compensation method."
Now 2026. On August 1, about two weeks after the new name, Medifast "launched an enhanced compensation plan." The CEO said it focuses on "developing and duplicating Executive Directors."
He called them "high-producing coaches." Medifast says a healthy field has at least 10% of coaches at that rank or above. And so, by its own bar, nine in ten can sit below the rank the plan focuses on.
Medifast picked the name both times. Medifast wrote the pay plan both times. You were the one your clients knew by name.
What do Medifast's own numbers say about coaches?
Quick answer: 68,000 active earning coaches in mid 2022 and about 11,700 in mid 2026. The company expects fewer.
Here is the math.
In the second quarter of 2022, Medifast counted 68,000 active earning coaches. Its CEO then, Dan Chard, called coach support "a key differentiator for our business."
In the same quarter of 2026, it counted about 11,700. That is 56,300 fewer. The new count is less than one fifth of the old one.
In the last year alone, the count fell 48.7%, from 22,800. Medifast blamed a hard time finding new clients. Part of that, it said, was "rapid adoption of GLP-1 medications for weight loss."
Then the forecast. Medifast "expects the number of active earning coaches to continue to decline in 2026." It even lists its "inability to maintain and grow the network of independent coaches" as a risk.
The two name changes, side by side. Each cell is Medifast's own words or count.
| July 2017 | July 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| The name | Take Shape For Life becomes OPTAVIA | OPTAVIA becomes Trilivy |
| Coaches, in Medifast's count | "over 12,500 Coaches" | about 11,700 active earning coaches, at June 30 |
| The new pay plan | "OPTAVIA Pay, a new Coach compensation method" | "an enhanced compensation plan," August 1 |
The 2017 count did not say "active earning." Medifast's results for the second quarter of 2017 did: 13,500 active earning coaches. So after a climb to 68,000, the count is now below where OPTAVIA started.
Is Medifast going out of business?
Quick answer: not by its own numbers. At June 30, 2026 it had $169.8 million in cash and investments, and no debt.
I know what you are thinking. Maybe this is one bad year, and it turns around.
The CEO saw "signs of a turnaround." By its count, revenue per coach is up 41.0% from a year ago. It says it is on track to make a profit again in the fourth quarter.
I will give them that. It lost $3.1 million that quarter and kept going.
Now read how the CFO, James Maloney, put it. He said the company is building "a new coach leadership structure, which includes deprioritizing less productive coaches."
And so Medifast can do fine with fewer coaches. Whether you do fine is its own question.
The Trilivy coach page still says "Healthy Finances," with a little star. The star leads to this: "Trilivy makes no guarantee of financial success."
Isn't this just another pitch?
Quick answer: partly, and here is the part I will not dress up.
Switch to America could change its name or its pay plan too. Any company can. I will not pretend otherwise.
Here is what I can tell you. We are the manufacturer. No middlemen and no markup. No minimums, no maximums.
You pay what a brand new shopper pays. I will not hand you a number to expect. Nobody honest can.
Ask me on the call who writes the pay plan here, and how much notice you get when it changes. If I dodge it, that is your answer.
What would I do first on Monday?
Quick answer: get two answers in writing, then write down your clients' names.
Ask Medifast two questions in writing
What changed in my pay on August 1, at my rank? What happens to my clients' accounts under the new name? Send it by email. Keep the answer.
Read the income disclosure before you renew
The Trilivy coach kit is listed at $199.00, with 12 months of website access. Next to it sits a button that says Renew License.
Before you press it, find the Trilivy Income Disclosure Statement. The coach page itself points you there. This is how to read one.
Read the October 26 numbers yourself
Medifast set October 26, 2026 for its third quarter numbers. Find that release and look for one line, active earning coaches. You will see for yourself whether the count kept falling, as the company said it would.
Write down the people, not the brand
Each client you can think of. The one who texts you on Sunday nights. Her sister. The neighbor who asked what you were eating.
No new name can rename them. They know you.
Then talk it over with a friend who has nothing to sell you.
Shannon's Advice
Straight talk from ShannonI do not call them grocery stores. They are poison centers meant to do you and your family harm. It is not just the brands who are doing the harm, it is the stores themselves. They allow these toxic products on their shelves. People are sick and dying. This is a very serious matter. How can we ever trust them again?
We can't trust them. That is where Switch to America comes in. We are a new supply chain, built on family values, trust and affordability.
You do not have to take my word for it. The proof is in my blog posts, the recalls, the lawsuits and the fines. Also, inside my Switch Circle private community, we talk about real solutions.
Women come to me exhausted, in pain, stressed out, and on a list of prescriptions they never wanted. I have spent over 20 years helping women get off prescription medications. I help families reclaim their health.
We cannot stop them. I have stopped expecting to. However, we can stop walking into their stores. We are linking arms and together taking our control back. Control of our health and our finances.

Who do you become?
Here is what I want for you, whether or not we ever speak.
It is a Saturday in November. You walk the park path under the trees in the low gold light, hands free. You walk slowly, because your clients know you by name, not by a logo.
You become the one whose name stays the same, whatever the box says.
Twenty minutes, on video, no slides
Bring two questions. Who writes the pay plan here, and how much notice do you get when it changes? If it is not for you, I would rather find out on the call.

What is Optavia's new name?
Trilivy, announced on July 17, 2026. Today optavia.com sends you to trilivyhealth.com. Trilivy.com is not their site.
What was Optavia called before?
Take Shape For Life. Medifast renamed it OPTAVIA in July 2017. Trilivy is the second new name in nine years.
Is Optavia going out of business?
Not by its own numbers. At June 30, 2026, Medifast had $169.8 million in cash and investments, and no debt. It also expects its coach count to keep falling in 2026.
Did coach pay change with the new name?
Yes. A new pay plan started on August 1, 2026, aimed at a rank called Executive Director. Ask Medifast in writing what changed at your rank.
Why are there fewer Trilivy coaches?
Medifast points to trouble finding new clients, including the fast spread of GLP-1 weight loss drugs. Its CFO also said coaches who sell less now get less focus. None of that was your call.
