LuLaRoe Asks $499 Up Front. What Does It Actually Cost to Start? (2026)
The short answer
You ask what it costs to start, and you get the price of the pack. Not the whole list.
LuLaRoe's own page asks $499 for 33 pieces of clothing. It calls that the minimum to get started.
That is only the floor. In a 2019 lawsuit, Washington said the starting packs ran $2,000 to $9,000. LuLaRoe denied doing anything wrong.
With me, you start by moving your own shopping to a new store. No stock and no minimum.
That is the whole post. The rest is the proof.
What this guide answers
What does LuLaRoe charge to start?
Quick answer: $499 on its own page, and the same page is already selling you more.
You have stood in a friend's spare room between two racks of leggings. You bought a pair you did not need, because she needed the sale.
So I read LuLaRoe's own page to see what it costs to start now. It sells a "Retailer Business Starter Pack." "Priced at only $499, it includes 33 pieces of clothing."
Then it says, "The more you stock, the more you save." The add-on packs are offered "for 3 days after your initial order."
Twenty minutes, and you decide nothing on the call
Want my whole price, to the dollar? Book the twenty minutes and ask me.
You can always say no.Washington sued LuLaRoe in 2019. The state said the starting fee ran "$2,000 to $9,000."
And the state says you did not pick what came in the box. The state's complaint alleges the stock came in 33-piece "pods." It says sellers could not choose the size or the print.
In 2021 the state put the packs at $500 to $5,000. Today the floor is $499. You still pay for 33 pieces before you sell one.
What else does it cost that nobody puts on the first page?
Quick answer: racks, bins, a label printer and even a trailer, on a list a court made LuLaRoe publish.
Before the first box lands, you clear a shelf for it. Then a closet. Then the spare room.
In 2021 LuLaRoe settled with Washington for $4.75 million. The court order told it to publish a plain statement for sellers, in a set form. That form lists the other costs of starting.
Racks and hangers. Storage bins and mannequins. A printer for shipping labels. And right there on the list, a "vehicle/trailer to transport merchandise."
The same form lists the costs that keep coming, down to gas to "deliver orders."
The FTC puts it in one line. "Even if the start-up costs seem low, additional expenses can add up quickly."
Picture it. The racks in the spare room, the bins in the hall, the printer on the kitchen counter, the back seat full of boxes. And that feeling that the stock owns your house instead of the other way around.
And so the $499 is just the first check you write.
Getting out cost something too. The state says LuLaRoe raised its refund to 100 percent in April 2017. Five months later, by the state's account, it went back to 90 percent "without notice."
The state quoted a seller who wrote while her returns were still on the road. "I have $16,740 in inventory in a truck on the way to their warehouse."
Close the laptop on any offer that shows you the pack and hides the trailer.
What does it cost to start with me?
Quick answer: your own shopping, moved to a new store. Nothing to stock and nothing to resell.
Here is my whole list.
There is a small membership to open your account. After that, you pay what a brand new shopper pays. Not a penny less.
You buy the dish and laundry soap your house already uses. Orders ship to the person who ordered them, and so nothing lands in your hall closet.
There are no minimums and no maximums. You can cancel any time, for any reason.
Side by side, the difference is what lives in your house.
| LuLaRoe, by its page and the 2019 lawsuit | Starting with me | |
|---|---|---|
| What you buy to start | A $499 pack of 33 pieces | Your own household order |
| Who picks what you get | Not you, the state alleged | You do |
| Where it lives | Your house, on racks and in bins | It ships to whoever ordered it |
| A monthly minimum | Required to stay "active," the state alleged | None |
| If you want out | A refund rule the state says changed without notice | Cancel any time |
Now the cost I will not hide. Starting with me costs evenings. It is talking to people, and no version of it runs while you sleep.
How many hours a week this really takes is its own post. I answer it straight there.
Isn't this just another pitch?
Quick answer: partly. So here is the part that cuts against me.
I know what you are thinking. LuLaRoe fixed some of this, so why keep pointing at it?
It did fix some. Under the 2021 order, new Washington sellers who quit within 45 days could return all their first stock. Full refund, shipping paid. And it now puts its price up front.
LuLaRoe also denied "any and all wrongdoing of any kind whatsoever," the order records.
My side has limits too. A company built on reorders can close. Any of them can. And I will not hand you a number to expect, because nobody honest can.
Washington used a simple test, and I want you to use it on me. Where does the money come from? The state says if it comes mainly from signing people up, not from sales, it is a pyramid scheme.
Ask it of me. Ask it of anyone, with a friend beside you if that helps. A straight answer does not need a closed door.
What should you ask before you pay anyone to start?
Quick answer: get the whole list in writing, and ask what you must keep buying to stay in.
Ask for the whole list, not the pack
Write down every cost to start, all in. The pack, the shelf, the printer, the gas. If you only have the price of the pack, you do not have the price yet.
Get the refund rule in writing
The FTC says to "get the company's refund policy in writing." Then ask if it is full or partial, and how long it takes.
Ask what you must keep buying to stay in
The FTC warns you may be "required to buy a certain amount of product at regular intervals." Ask it straight. Ask me too.
If anybody dodges one of these, that is your answer. You just saved yourself a garage full of boxes.
Shannon's Advice
Straight talk from ShannonI do not call them grocery stores. They are poison centers meant to do you and your family harm. It is not just the brands who are doing the harm, it is the stores themselves. They allow these toxic products on their shelves. People are sick and dying. This is a very serious matter. How can we ever trust them again?
We can't trust them. That is where Switch to America comes in. We are a new supply chain, built on family values, trust and affordability.
You do not have to take my word for it. The proof is in my blog posts, the recalls, the lawsuits and the fines. Also, inside my Switch Circle private community, we talk about real solutions.
Women come to me exhausted, in pain, stressed out, and on a list of prescriptions they never wanted. I have spent over 20 years helping women get off prescription medications. I help families reclaim their health.
We cannot stop them. I have stopped expecting to. However, we can stop walking into their stores. We are linking arms and together taking our control back. Control of our health and our finances.

Where to check me
- LuLaRoe's own starter page, live in September 2026. $499 for 33 pieces, "the minimum package offer required to get started." The push to buy more sits right under it.
- Washington's lawsuit announcement, January 25, 2019. The state said the starting fee ran $2,000 to $9,000 and the 100 percent refund was pulled "without notice." LuLaRoe later denied all wrongdoing. The deal you pay for can change after you pay.
- The complaint, King County Superior Court. It alleges 33-piece "pods" you could not choose, and monthly buying rules to stay "active." By the state's account, you were paying for their choices.
- The settlement announcement, February 2, 2021. LuLaRoe agreed to pay $4.75 million. New Washington sellers who quit within 45 days could return their first stock for a full refund. A real fix, and it took a court.
- The court order, case 19-2-02325-2 SEA, February 2021. Its form lists the racks, bins, printer and trailer. It also records that LuLaRoe denied "any and all wrongdoing." That is the receipt against my own argument.
- The FTC's plain guide to these businesses, July 2022. "Even if the start-up costs seem low, additional expenses can add up quickly." That is what a pack price leaves out.
What else are women asking me about this?
Is $499 really all it costs to start with LuLaRoe?
No, not by the list a court told it to publish. That form names racks, hangers, bins, a label printer and a trailer as startup costs you may need. The $499 pack is the floor.
Do I have to buy stock to start with you?
No. There is nothing to stock and nothing to resell. Orders ship to the person who ordered them.
Is there a monthly minimum?
No. There are no minimums and no maximums. You buy what your house already uses, and you can cancel any time.
What does it cost to start with you, to the dollar?
There is a small membership to open your account. Ask me on the call. I will give you the exact figure, so you can write it down. After that, you pay what a brand new shopper pays.
Here is what I want for you, whether or not we ever speak.
It is a warm fall evening. You are up on a step in your own yard, hanging a string of lights along the fence. You take your time, because nothing in your spare room is waiting to be sold.
Your hall closet holds towels. Your back seat holds groceries.
You become the one who asked for the whole price, and got it before you paid a cent.
